North Carolina-America Program?

• A division of the Ms. Wheelchair America program, Ms. Wheelchair NC-America is a disability advocacy program which seeks to select the most articulate and accomplished spokeswoman to represent persons with disabilities in the state of North Carolina and at the National level.

• This program is a symbol of the dignity and productiveness of persons with disabilities.

• Ms. Wheelchair NC-America assumes responsibility for the ongoing effort to eliminate stereotypical and physical barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from assuming their right place in society.

• The selected candidate must communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of the disability community to the general public, business community and the government.

What are the Responsibilities of

Ms. Wheelchair America?

• Promoting awareness of the need to eliminate architectural and attitudinal barriers.

• Informing the able-bodied public of the achievements of people with disabilities across the nation.

• Promoting Ms. Wheelchair America by assisting in the establishment of programs in all 50 states.

Ms. Wheelchair NC-America Program!

The 2015 Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina Pageant was held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville, North Carolina.

Currently representing North Carolina as our accomplished spokeswoman is Shannon Chisholm from Fletcher, North Carolina. Shannon will be traveling to Des Moines, Iowa the week of July 27h - August 2nd, 2015 to compete in the 2016 Ms. Wheelchair Amererica Pageant. We wish Shannon the same success as Erika Bogan and Alexandra McArthur, when they became National titleholders at the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant. Good luck Shannon! Ariella Barker, Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2014 represented North Carolina well in Long Beach, California at the 2015 Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.

Morgan Norris, Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2013 represented North Carolina well in Houston, Texas at the 2014 Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.

Kristian Champion, Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2012 represented North Carolina well in Providence, Rhode Island at the 2013 Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant and placed 1st Runner Up.

Elizabeth Taylor Lentz, Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2011 represented North Carolina well in Grand Rapids Michigan at the 2012 Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.

Alexandra McArthur, Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2010, from Cary, North Carolina won the title Ms. Wheelchair America 2011.

Erika Bogan, Ms. Whelchair North Carolina 2009, from Concord North Carolina won the title Ms. Wheelchair America 2010.

This is the first time in Ms. Wheelchair America History that a state has won the Ms. Wheelchair America title consecutively!

What is the Ms. Wheelchair

America Program?

• The mission of the Ms. Wheelchair America Program, Inc. is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement who utilize wheelchairs to successfully educate and advocate for people with disabilities.

• Unlike traditional pageants, the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant is in no way a beauty contest. It is instead a competition to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for the millions of Americans living with disabilities.

• The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, business community and the legislature.

• Each year Ms. Wheelchair America has had the opportunity to travel, visiting advocacy groups, making public appearances and conducting radio, print, and TV interviews in the fulfillment of her responsibilities.
